Powder coating is a process popularly applied for a long-lasting, uniform finish. Rather than liquid paint, dry powders are applied and thermally bonded. The surface is thus more resistant to chipping, fading or scratching and retains its vibrant color longer.
For powder-coated mild steel, a zinc-rich prime is applied first to foster greater corrosion resistance.

Corten steel, also known as weathering steel, takes on an earthy, rust-like appearance once exposed to the elements. The initial reactive period lasts 3-9 months. During this time, the steel produces carbon run off that may stain neighboring stone or concrete. After this phase passes, the corten steel seals itself and run off mostly ceases.
Unlike mild steel, the structure of the planter is not compromised as a result of the oxidation process; corten steel retains its strength for decades despite environmental exposure.
The standard corten steel option is delivered as raw-looking, gray steel. The elements can be treated in advance to accelerate weathering and create a more uniform finish.
Where ready finish is preferred upon installation, for reduced run-off staining or for indoor creations without weather exposure, pre-weathered and sealed corten is the premium solution.
